THE Gold Coast has been waiting more than 20 years since the Coomera Town Centre was first proposed but the wait is almost over.
Developer Westfield says the $470 million first stage of the shopping centre is on track to welcome customers in time for Christmas.
Construction continues on the mega shopping centre, with workers up against the clock to finish the project in time.
After nearly a year of construction workers have poured 90 per cent of concrete slabs, which required enough concrete to fill 40 Olympicsized swimming pools.
Centre manager Fiona Papworth said work remained on track despite recent wet weather.
“We are getting to the pointy end now and we are ready to open up later this year,” she said.
“The construction is really coming along and we are on track for late 2018 and Santa will be here so we will be ready.
“We are hoping this becomes an entertainment hub and we want this to be a unique offering.”
The 59,000-square metre development will feature 140 specialty stores including Woolworths, Coles, Kmart, Target and Event Cinemas
Roof sheeting on the cinema building is now complete, with the cavernous rooms which will house its giantsized V-Max theatre already
