PARADISE POINT’S GIANT CAUSE FOR A BOWLS CELEBRATIO­N

PARADISE Point have taken out the Premier Sevens Division 1 title defeating Musgrave Hill 2-1 at Mermaid Beach on Sunday.

Former South African internatio­nal Eric Johannas led the way for Paradise Point claiming the singles 31-14 over ex-Kiwi internatio­nal Brian Baldwin.

This put them in the box seat as both pairs and fours discipline­s were in the balance with sevens ends to play.

After being 20-20 in the pairs, Paradise Point’s Peter Thompson and Troy Corba claimed two shots to take the lead going into the final end.

Another two on the last end gave them the rink win and the match, defeating Gary Mounsey and Chris Le Lievre 24-20. Musgrave Hill prevailed in the fours 17-15.

In big news across the Gold Coast Tweed District, 2006 Commonweal­th Games singles champion Kelvin Kerkow has signed for Tweed Heads after representi­ng South Tweed for 20 years. Kelvin worked and played for Tweed Heads before changing to South Tweed and it is likely that several players will follow. South Tweed Bowls Manager Bill Cornehls will be looking to rebuild before pennant season starts in July.

Musgrave Hill defeated Paradise Point by two shots to win the Gold Coast Tweed Summer Nines event at McKenzie Park on Sunday.

The 2018 District State Mixed Pairs Final has been reschedule­d and will now be played at Musgrave Hill Bowls Club today starting at 9.30am.

Defending champions Sean Ingham and Dee Ann Robertson will play Phil Brandon and Gail Crompton.

Many countries have arrived for the Commonweal­th Games with various clubs across the Coast holding practice sessions.

The Australian team go into camp today in Brisbane before transferri­ng to the Games Village on Friday morning.

On April 2 and 4, Broadbeach is open only to Para Sport athletes to train. The Aussies will use Club Helensvale while New Zealand will take on Scotland at Tweed Heads on the April 2. Musgrave Hill is the official training venue for the Games and is sure to attract many teams.
