LAGER WITH RICH REWARDS
As we move into autumn, you’ll find this imported drop is more than a match for hearty meals
MOST people would associate Guinness with its most famous product — the delicious stout loved by millions around the world.
However, it isn’t the only drop they are known for and now in Australia they have released Hop House 13 Lager, a very different drop from the St James’s Gate brewery.
Named after an early 1900s hop store building at St James’s Gate, where hops are still stored to this day, this lager isn’t the hop explosion flooding the market.
It has a rich golden appearance, slightly hazy with a good white head and an earthy aroma — if you are expecting the fragrance found in pale ales and IPAs, you may be disappointed in this imported brew, which is far more subtle.
Being a lager it has good body, leaving a more-ish bitterness in the aftertaste that makes it very sessionable.
It does address a thirst and, at 4.1 per cent, is a full-strength beer without being too heavy, so you can have a few.
The thing I really appreciated about this lager is that if you let it sit for a short while its character becomes more interesting.
I’m not saying drink it warm, but enjoy this drop cold, rather than chilled.
It’s a cooler-weather lager, and it will go down well with a decent curry.
