THE man who allegedly shot a skateboarder in the leg yesterday is on parole after being sentenced for 54 drug and weapons offences in May last year.

Police were last night searching for Tyson Boulden over the shooting of Matt Pascoe, 28, on Mortensen Road, Nerang, about 12pm.

Mr Pascoe was in a stable condition after suffering wounds to both legs while riding his skateboard following an argument.

THE man who allegedly shot a skateboarder in the leg yesterday is on parole after being sentenced for 54 drug and weapons offences in May last year.

Police were last night searching for Tyson Boulden over the shooting of a 28-yearold man on Mortensen Road, Nerang, around midday.

Matt Pascoe suffered wounds to both legs while riding his skateboard following an argument.

Mr Pascoe was a stable condition in Gold Coast University Hospital.

Neighbours said the single shot went through one leg and into the other. Police said the pair were known to each other and believe the weapon used was a handgun.

Mr Pascoe’s family last night demanded to know why Boulden was out of prison.

“They’ve never gotten along, my brother and the shooter,” said a family member.

“We’ve had problems before but police refused to look into any inquiry. It’s quite frustrating since this could have been prevented if the courts would lock these idiots up accordingly.”

Senior LNP MP John-Paul Langbroek said “there’s a frustration in the community about parole which will be heightened by these types of stories.

“There is a community frustration with sentencing from magistrates and judges that the public feel powerless to do anything about.

“So we respect the separation of powers, but there is definitely and sense with some of these law and order issues on the Gold Coast that sentencing does not reflect community expectations.”

Mr Pascoe and Boulden “used to hang out” but fell out when the other man started doing ice and ended up in jail, Mr Pascoe’s family said.

Boulden is on parole after being sentenced to 54 charges in the Supreme Court in Brisbane on May 17 last year.

He was sentenced to three years prison with immediate release for offences including supplying dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing suspected stolen property, weapons offences, possessing tainted property and wilful damage.

Boulden served a total of 483 days in custody before being sentenced.

Less than a year earlier on August 16, 2016, he was fined $600 and disqualified from driving for two years after being caught driving without a licence and driving without due care and attention and

driving an unregistered and uninsured car.

Boulden was also fined $1000 for possessing dangerous drugs and a knife on September 8, 2014.

After the shooting yesterday, Mr Pascoe’s skateboard was left discarded on the footpath along with a baseball cap and his ruined pants.

Police later bagged the items as evidence.

Neighbour Robbie Dale told the Bulletin he heard a loud crack from next door just after midday yesterday.

“I thought that’s not a balloon or a backfire,” he said.

Mr Dale said when he went outside he saw someone screaming for help as they had been shot and another person giving the man first aid.

Mr Dale also saw a man jump into a silver Audi before taking off. “It was frightening.”

Mr Dale said he called triple 0 and offered a towel to a woman giving first aid.

Other neighbours said they rushed outside when they heard a man calling for help.
