MINISTER WEARS HER SUPPORT ON HER SLEEVE

- SALLY COATES

YOU won’t catch Kate Jones wearing the same thing twice during these two weeks, but it’s a statement that stems from support rather than vanity.

To show her support for local business the Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Commonwealth Games will wear a different Leina Broughton dress every day – a dozen dresses for a dozen days.

“There is so much great stuff happening on the Gold Coast including in the fashion industry,” Jones said.

“I thought the Games was a unique opportunity to showcase a local designer.

“I’m wearing one of Leina’s dresses every day of the Games.

“I’m getting heaps of compliments as they are such beautiful designs made for our weather.”

Mrs Broughton said the Minister had been a customer for some time and liked that she could be both fashionable and practical in her busy life.

“Kate has been a customer of ours for a while, she’s quite avid about supporting local labels and designers – we make everything on the GC,” she said.

“I think Kate Jones is pretty special, she’s very much pro local businesses and she’s been a big supporter of ours.

“I think honestly she loves the dresses, they make her feel good.

“Without putting words in her mouth I think she likes to be able to move while being feminine and still being about to deal with hard politics.”

Mrs Broughton said a Kate Jones design would be a representation of her persona and lifestyle.

“It would definitely have to be a bold colour and something she could wear to many different occasions.

“Clean cut, structured and she’s also petite as well, in size and height, so it would be specific to that.”
