Surfers Paradise Under construction $1.4 billion FEWER tradies will be forced to make the daily trek up the M1 over the next decade thanks to the postCommonwealth Games construction boom.

That’s the message from industry leaders and experienced demographers who say there will be a widereaching impact from the Games.

Urbis director Paul Riga said the impact of the boom would be felt through increased enrolments in local schools and new jobs across a wide variety of industries.

“It is not just transport, it’s everything from education to retirement and health and will bring in a wide diversity of employment needs and employees over the years.

“The focus will not just be on construction but will create for the city a wider employment profile.”

Urbis identified 342 infrastructure projects across the Gold Coast and Tweed regions linked to the Games, totalling a value of $13.2 billion.

Among those projects set to come down the pipeline in coming years is the next stage of the $300 million Gold Coast Airport masterplan, The Broadbeach to Burleigh light rail link, the $500 million Coomera Town Centre and future parts of the Gold Coast Cultural Precinct.
