WEATHER GODS SMILE WITH TOP CONDITIONS

-

WE finally had some fishable weather this week after weeks of having to stay in the estuaries.

Those who have been outside have told me there are still big Spanish mackerel around and some big wahoo caught off Tweed Heads on Nine Mile Reef.

The great news for sushi lovers is that small yellowfin tuna should start to arrive soon on our closer reefs.

The water temperature will start to drop shortly which will signal the start of snapper season but the great news is some smaller ones are already being caught on first light on the 36 fathom reefs.

The marlin fishing season appears to have no end with reports of striped and black marlin caught in 80m of water as well as some big dolphin fish.

On the beaches, good quality whiting are around and we are still seeing some big mangrove jacks caught in the rivers too.

Sunday looks the pick for getting offshore over the weekend, but we should start to the see the westerly winds arrive soon and when they do it will be worth trying for tailor in the surf gutters.
