Boost behind women tears
THE silver lining for pigtailed Charlotte Caslick and her teary girl crew after winning hearts in rugby sevens will be a $30 million coup for Australia’s first women’s rugby hub at Ballymore in Brisbane.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palasczuk cannot possibly back off the proposed redevelopment of jaded Ballymore as the national headquarters for women’s rugby after the pulsating thrills delivered yesterday in an epic trans-Tasman gold medal match.
Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones was in conversation with Rugby Australia chief Raelene Castle in a corporate box at the sevens last Friday with the redevelopment on the menu and Palasczuk met with New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern at Robina Stadium when the sevens were pumping on Saturday night.
The playoff for fifth from the men was a curtain-raiser because more than 25,000 fans, three days in a row, celebrated Aussie girl power.
