Foodcourt facelift

AUSTRALIA Fair’s food court has undergone a multimillion-dollar refurbishment as the owners attempt to keep pace with rapidly evolving mall dining precincts.

The renovations are the first major changes to the food court, which counts McDonald’s, KFC and Subway as tenants, in 23 years.

It follows new additions to Pacific Fair and Robina Town Centre’s food courts, which have been transformed into casual dining areas, with a number of new eating options.

General manager Ramon Otten said the changes were needed to transform a long, narrow, space into one that was more open and contemporary.

Mr Otten said that included flexible seating options, a modified floor plan, high bars, upgraded amenities and pendant lighting.

“We are offering people what they are after these days, which is less of the oldstyle food court, and a bit more of the cafe court,” he said.

“The transformation will see customers enjoy a selection of international dining options, as well as new furniture and facilities, as the food court becomes a modern dining precinct that exudes a strong coastal ambience with a contemporary new-look.”

Work started in early January and was completed recently.

The food court has 1400sq m of space, 16 tenancies, and Broadwater views.

The latest tenant to sign on is Sandwich Chefs, which has leased a 436sq m space.

It will open at the end of May.

When that space is filled, it will leave one vacancy in the premises.

Mr Otten said the 195sq m space, formerly occupied by Cafe Moccachino’s, will be reconfigured to open it to the food court.

The food court revamp is the latest area of Australia Fair to be upgraded.

It follows $25 million worth of renovations last year to the Scarborough St entrance, ground and supermarket.

“Stage one of the revitalisation project has already been well-received by our shoppers, who have provided positive feedback on the new look and feel to this part of the centre,” Mr Otten said. “We have carried on the same vibe through to the new-look food court, which will also complement our popular alfresco dining precinct, Australia Fair Metro.
