BEACHES EVACUATED AMID FRENZY
BEACHES were evacuated yesterday as sharks went on feeding frenzies from Byron Bay to North Stradbroke Island.
A number of schools of sharks have been captured going to town feasting on large schools of mullet in recent days, forcing the evacuation of scores of Northern NSW beaches.
The fish appear to have turned up right on time with the traditional season for the humble fish running from Anzac Day through to August annually.
The NSW Department of Primary Industries took photos of a dozen common blacktip sharks feeding on schools of fish off Tyagarah near Byron yesterday. The beach was evacuated.
Sharks were also spotted and beaches evacuated at Lennox Head, Tallow Beach, Byron Bay, Brunswick Heads, Pottsville, Tweed, Hastings Point and Cudgera.
Further north, drone vision also emerged of around a dozen sharks feasting on schools of baitfish in shallow water off North Stradbroke Island.
