ONCE again the dawn service at Elephant Rock was excellent. It’s a day to celebrate, but also a sad day to think about the men and women that died in these awful wars. When will they end? Not in my lifetime, if ever.
But the thing that kept coming to mind were the few that criticise our day of remembrance, with the likes of that awful Yasmin AbdelMagied when she tried to belittle our special day (‘Disrespect for Anzac Day must not be tolerated’, GCB, 25/4/18).
I am under the impression she now lives in the UK, spreading and preaching her venom. How on earth do they let people like Yasmin Abdel-Magied into their country? VERN S
THE large numbers of attendees and participants in Anzac commemorations yesterday simply verify that Australians love their country and are proud to honour those who fought for the freedom we enjoy today. Crowds were huge and this reflects the national pride Australians exhibit.
Minority groups that seek to damage the unity we enjoy should take note that they are not welcome.

THE Titans side selected to take on the Sharks on Saturday in round 8 of the premiership is a winning team.
So too are the fans. I have been around this game for 75 years and have never come across more loyal, honest and fair dinkum supporters than those who represent the city of Gold Coast. So to the team selected to play this Saturday, I say win for them.
For the first third of your life you believed in Santa and the tooth fairy. What the fans are asking is that for 80 minutes this Saturday you just believe in yourself and your supporters. PAUL BROUGHTON OAM
THE Murwillumbah Art Trail 2018 (MAT18) is coming on May 18.
For 10 lively days Murwillumbah becomes the gallery and venue for art, performance and food over 28 venues. It will be huge.
We need help with running the show and are calling for people to come and volunteer.
It’s not all a one-way street — our volunteers work in well-defined roles that will add to your skills and give you a cool crowd of people to hang out with.
Roles and titles, many humorous, reflect the importance of making sure everything runs smoothly for the community and out-oftown patrons.
Art ambassadors will be our frontline people, assisting with galleries and generally being useful people. But there are more.
Chariot Commander is a bus driver, a Propaganda Poster is someone who can assist us putting up posters all over town (you will be in the Department of Spin). A Booze Artist is a bartender, a Mover and Shaker is someone who can help up set up and dismantle venues.
Volunteers will be trained in their roles at an information session on May 14. We will use your
enthusiasm and you will learn some new skills – always a good thing.
Everyone is welcome to apply regardless of your abilities.
Go to www.themurwillumbaharttrail.com/volunteer to register or email kfkaren98@gmail.com for further details. KAZ RICE, VOLUNTEERS COORDINATOR, MAT18
THE safe birth of a healthy baby is a cause for celebration everywhere. There are about 350,000 babies born worldwide and about 2000 in England each and every day although only one made the front page of most papers around the world and was a leading item on the news on April 23.
It is time to celebrate all people and to remember it is not who you were born that makes you worthwhile but what you make of your life and the opportunities you take up. The Royal family has done much with Prince Philip’s ‘Duke of Edinburgh’ awards and Prince Harry’s work with disabled soldiers with the Invictus games. It is time to value not just the individual but all births. DENNIS FITZGERALD
ON the lsrael Folau issue, if I remember correctly the vote last year was about same-sex marriage, not that people should change their religious beliefs. ROD WATSON, SURFERS PARADISE
