‘The little things’ top the Games

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

A GOOD deed earned a volunteer her own golden moment at the Commonwealth Games.

Melbourne school teacher Catriona Cameron-Martin realised it was “the right thing to do’’ when she had the chance to make a young fan’s day.

Ms Cameron-Martin, 27, was volunteering at the gymnastics and spotted a family who had come all the way from England.

“There was a little boy. His family came from England to watch the British team competing,” Ms Cameron-Martin said.

“I saw him earlier and he was shouting down at the team, ‘oh so-and-so, I follow you on Instagram’, and it was really cute.”

It didn’t end there, however, when English artistic gymnast Dominick Cunningham noticed the boy in the stands and came over.

“He saw him earlier on and saw how much he likes gymnastics, and I don’t know how to describe it, I just wanted to help this little boy meet his idols,” Ms Cameron-Martin said.

“We arranged a fan moment and he was just ecstatic. It put a big smile on everyone’s face.”

Her good deed did not go unnoticed, with Cunningham later stopping to pose for a memorable photo with Ms Cameron-Martin in which he lent her his gold medal.
