Roos hit century in opener

-

THE Robina Roos women’s side kicked a cricket score to annihilate Beenleigh by 100 points in a remarkable QWFA Division 2 season-opener.

The home side had no answer for Roos vice-captain Courtney Millington, who ran rampant at Dauth Park on Saturday.

Small forward Ros Manns was deadly from all angles in front of the uprights, bagging six, while tall forward Sarah Ellis chipped in with four.

Tall defender Renee Cacciola-Whittle set up an impenetrable defence. The Buffaloes did not trouble the scorers until the final stanza, when they scored their only point for the match, which ended 0.1 (1) to 15.11 (101).

The Roos’ men’s reserves team made it two wins on the trot, downing Beenleigh 9.7 (61) to 14.6 (90) in Round 4 of the men’s competition.

Mitchell O’Donnell-Daniel reproduced the form that earned him the Roos reserves best and fairest award last year, starring for the visitors, along with Mitch Wren, who kicked three goals, and Ed Paynter.

The seniors men’s team had a tough day at the office, eventually succumbing 19.19 (133) to 6.8 (44).

Beenleigh held a 26-point advantage going into the last quarter, then piled on 10 goals to put the result beyond doubt.

Next week, the men’s teams will take on Coolangatta at the Roo Pen and the women’s team will be away to Surfers Paradise.
