Games momentum just Devine for triple treat Dylan

-

THE Commonwealth Games have been credited for helping deliver one of the standout performance of the Australian Little Athletics Championships.

Runaway Bay’s Dylan Devine dominated his home track at the weekend, taking home three gold medals.

He got off to a flying start in the under-13 boys 1500m event, clocking 4.20 minutes to win gold before returning later in the day to take the 800m in 2:03:68.

His golden streak continued on Day 2, sprinting the 400m in 54.74 seconds to take the middle distant treble.

More than 220 young athletes were selected in the under-13 and 15 age groups to represent their state or territory at the championships, leading Coles Little Athletics chief executive Martin Stillman to hail the not-so-secret catalyst to Devine’s efforts.

“There is no doubt that performances like Dylan’s have been inspired by our Australian athletics team who competed in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games only a few weeks ago,” he said.

“It’s fantastic to see our young athletes make their mark on the biggest stage Little Athletics has to offer in Australia, and we look forward to watching them shine in the years to come.”

Across Australia, there are about 100,000 children are registered for Little Athletics across 550 clubs and in every state and territory.
