Change only aids surfing

-

CRITICS of Kelly Slater’s Founders Cup should do themselves a favour and spend a day in a room with some history books.

With innovation comes improvement.

Like all sports, surfing is not immune to the rust that shackles itself to idleness. Whether you like your waves manmade or, you know, all beachy, is not the point.

The fact something is being done to ensure those who fancy life on a board can experience things in a whole new way, that is the point.

Like the concept or not, Slater is giving back to his sport by trying new things, creating his code’s own Twenty20, if you like. Don’t judge the ploy’s success now but in another 20 years.
