ON ROAD TO GLORY

- TOM BOSWELL @TomBoswellGCB

NERANG senior women’s coach Pablo Larrain has predicted early success for Coomera after watching his team fall 4-2 to the Premier Women newcomers.

An understrength Nerang team trailed 3-2 at halftime but couldn’t find a way to get level with Coomera who went on to claim the win at Glennon Park Field yesterday.

“It is not the result we were after but it was a bit hard for us because we had a few girls who were playing injured,” Larrain said.

“We also have more than a few players sitting on the sideline because of injuries so it wasn’t the best line up we could have had.”

But despite his own team’s shortcomings, Larrain praised the performance of a Coomera team which he warned the whole competition should be wary of.

“Coomera were absolutely a good team and a better team than us,” Larrain said.

“They have got something really good together for this season as a new club in the competition.

“I think they are going to do really well.”

Nerang will play Robina this Saturday while Coomera will face Broadbeach.

In other Round 3 women’s matches, Palm Beach crushed Broadbeach 4-2, Southport 2 were 6-1 victors over Robina 2 and Southport 1 scored the only goal in their victory over Robina 1.

Broadbeach 1 hammered Kingscliff 18-0.

In the men’s competition, Burleigh defeated Nerang 3-0, Palm Beach got the points against Murwillumbah 2-0 and Coomera and Surfers drew 3-3 despite the Colts leading 3-1 with 20 minutes left.

“We just need to learn how to manage the game better,” coach Steve McDonald said.
