LILLY’S NOT FAZED BY WEIGHT OF EXPECTATION

NOT many of us could handle the pressure of being touted as the next Margot Robbie, but for 18-year-old Lilly Van Der Meer it’s no big deal.

Not only does she star in Neighbours, where Robbie got her start, she’s also Gold Coast born and bred and even bears a striking resemblance to the Wolf of Wall Street star.

“For people to make that comparison is unbelievably flattering,” she said.

“Margot is an incredible actress and of course the fact she was on the GC inspires me – it’s a smaller town than Sydney or Melbourne so it’s incredible that she found her path to LA.

“Knowing that she has been where I am now, she’s been through all the stages of finding work from exactly where I am, that gives me a lot of hope.”

Van Der Meer is currently in the middle of filming as her character Xanthe Canning, but will return to the Gold Coast for the Logies, taking place at The Star on July 1.

While she was up for Best New Talent last year, she missed out on a nomination this year. She said she’s not bothered though, as her job is rewarding enough.

“I have fans message me saying ‘this storyline changed my world’,” she said.

“When you have fans giving you that satisfaction, you don’t need … an award.

“Plus Australia’s most incredible actors will all be in my hometown – we have so much to offer so I’m excited for them all to see that.”
