Bolton future unclear

- NICK CAMPTON

SCOTT Bolton’s immediate playing future remains unclear and the Cowboys prop is no certainty to line up against Wests Tigers.

Bolton, 30, was charged with indecent assault on Sunday after a night out in Bondi with teammates. He flew home to Townsville after the incident and is due to face Waverley Local Court on June 19.

Former Bronco Francis Molo has flown to Sydney as cover for Bolton and is a chance to replace the veteran in the squad to face the Tigers on Thursday night.

“It’s in the NRL hands and the police’s hands now,’’ winger Kyle Feldt said. “All we can really do is stand by and support Scott.

“He hasn’t been stood down by the club or the NRL, he’s just gone home to be with family. That’s his main priority at the moment.

“Francis Molo came down the other day. If he’s out, which we don’t think he will be; like I said, he hasn’t been stood down by the NRL or the Cowboys as of yet. If he comes back, we’ll open up and let him come in.”

Five-eighth Michael Morgan also backed the club’s depth to kick in should Bolton be sidelined.

“We’ve got depth in that position that someone else can fill (the spot),’’ Morgan said. “But it’ll be up to the club and up to Bolts and how he feels,.

“Playing football isn’t probably the first thing on his mind at the moment.

“It is only a short week, so we’ve got to move on pretty quickly football-wise. We’ll do our best to prepare as normal, as we normally would.”

Morgan and Feldt went into bat for Bolton as a teammate, although neither had spoken to him since the charges were laid.

“Peter Parr (football manager) has spoken to him and been with him, so it’s all up to the police at the moment,” Feldt said.

“As a teammate, he’s outstanding. He’s one of the nicest blokes on our team. He’s never done anything wrong. I don’t really know what happened so I can’t talk about it.”

Morgan said Molo can provide an edge.

“He can be quite explosive, he runs the ball hard and tackles hard,” Morgan said.

“He’s a very quiet guy. He keeps to himself a bit. He’s very friendly.

“He’s fit into our group well and gets along with everyone really well.

“He’s quite a shy sort of guy but I know he’s been playing pretty well for the Blackhawks this year.”
