Boost for females on the waves in Circuit

-

THE refocused Queensland Championship Circuit is set to kick off this weekend with the first event of the year, the MP Classic, on the Gold Coast.

The QCC series is Surfing Queensland’s premier event series featuring three events and has traditionally featured the best open men’s surfers in the state.

The iconic event series saw an expansion in 2018 with the inclusion of the open women’s division in a bid to provide the state’s best female surfers the opportunity to compete at three of Queens- land’s most iconic surf breaks.

This weekend’s event will see competitors looking to kickstart their 2018 QCC campaigns before the event moves north to the Sunshine Coast in in June.

Based on their best three of three results, the series winner of each division will take home their share of the $10,000 prize purse as well as a position at the 2019 World Surf League Quiksilver and Roxy Pro trials at Snapper Rocks.

“We’re thrilled to see the QCC series expand this year to include the open women’s division,” said Surfing Queensland CEO Adam Yates.

“We have an amazing group of up and coming junior surfers at the moment, it will be great to see them compete at some of the best locations our state has to offer.

“Each year we see an extensive list of national and international names in the draw so we’re excited to kick things off this weekend on the Gold Coast.”

The MP Classic has a long history of attracting some of the best surfers in the world including World Surf League Championship Tour athletes such as Ricardo Christie, Bede Durbridge, Adam Melling and Mitch Crews.
