THERE is no doubt a second M1 is needed between Brisbane and the Gold Coast but as usual the penny-pinching politicians are recommending a shorter version for the short term future with a road to nowhere (meaning cane fields) at Stapylton. A few more kilometres further north up to Redland Bay Rd at Carbrook makes a lot more sense with traffic coming and going from 3 different directions. That would solve the problem and take a lot more traffic off the M1 from those coming from the east and bayside suburbs of Brisbane as well as the west from the Logan motorway with a connection road over the M1 north of Eagleby.
