Novy boyfriend confirmed

- AMBER MACPHERSON JACOB MILEY

SOMERSET College was business as usual yesterday despite a traumatic turn of events over the weekend for one of its students left the school community reeling.

A 12-year-old boy was kidnapped on Friday afternoon while walking home along on Clover Hill Dve from the prestigious Mudgeeraba school.

While he was found unharmed in northern New South Wales the following day, headmaster Craig Bassingthwaighte said the school was offering counselling to those distressed by the weekend’s events.

“We have been focused on returning our students and staff to their normal routine and ensuring they feel supported,” Mr Bassingthwaighte said.

“We are offering counselling to students and are focused on ensuring that our teachers and staff are there to comfort students and discuss any questions they may have.

“While the abduction happened off school grounds, it has still affected the Somerset College community.”

While he would not comment on when the boy would return to school or how he is faring, Mr Bassingthwaighte said he was pleased the school’s security cameras were able to help with the operation.

“We have ongoing surveillance within and surrounding school grounds, and a dedicated team of staff members who diligently monitor school drop-offs and pick-ups,” he said.

“We are thrilled to hear he has been found safe and would like to thank police, media and the public for their efforts.” TWO friends of slain Gold Coast woman Novy Chardon have told a Brisbane court she had been in a relationship with another man in the lead-up to her death.

Southport woman Frederika Wong yesterday told the Brisbane Magistrates Court she had known Novy for some time prior to her disappearance and was aware she had a boyfriend who went by the name Ben.

The 34-year-old mother-oftwo’s body has never been found. She disappeared from her Upper Coomera home in 2013.

Her husband John Chardon has been murder.

Ms Wong told the court that while she never met Ben in person, she had spoken with him on the phone.

Another friend Deborah Manduapessy said she was aware Novy Chardon had been involved with Ben, and had met him about three times. charged with her
