NO RESTING FOR ROLLERS HERO

ON Sunday night Jack McVeigh was the most popular man at The Southport School.

By yesterday, the 21-yearold was just another face in the crowd slogging it out during an early-morning workout.

The Rollers star may have nailed his last-second jump shot against the Phoenix at the weekend – ensuring a 95-94 QBL victory – yet by the following day he was back showing the kind of commitment that sealed his NBL ascent to Adelaide next season.

Amid the celebrations of his heroics McVeigh got a text reminding him of his 6am workout at Hillcrest.

“I enjoyed it,” he said of his Sunday night celebrations. “But it was straight back to business.

“I’ve got the right people around me (to help me).”

TSS graduate McVeigh admitted his love of grabbing points ensured any nerves were drowned out during his buzzer-beater.

“For sure, I love to get buckets – that’s my favourite part of basketball,” he said when asked if he wanted the ball in his hands.

“I put in a lot of work and I believe in my ability to make a shot.

“I did what I wanted to do and it felt good.”

McVeigh described his season form as “not bad” as he finetunes his game ahead of his 36ers switch.

“I’m really excited about it – Joey Wright is a good coach and they have a good side,” he said.

“I’d love to win a championship down there.”

The Rollers face Logan at TSS on Saturday (4.30pm women, 6.30pm men).
