More cops are ‘a must’ in Coomera

-

MEMBER for Coomera Michael Crandon has expressed his concern at Coomera Police Station getting just one new recruit of the 10 recently graduated police officers destined for the Gold Coast area.

Mr Crandon said he welcomed the additional officer to the Northern Gold Coast, but given the major population boom, said one wasn’t enough.

“We need a huge increase in numbers on the Northern Gold Coast,” he said. “We’ve been calling for 50 additional police officers just to catch up with the population growth. I know the union have also supported between 40 and 50.

“Even Brian Codd, the Assistant Commissioner for the Gold Coast until July 1 has indicated the Coomera area needs an injection of additional police in statements he made last October.

“I’d like to think that we’d get something like 50 per cent of any additional police allocated to the Gold Coast at the Coomera Police Station.”
