Man fined for lashing out at door

- KIRSTIN PAYNE

KICKING an automatic door at the Star Casino has cost a man more than $3000.

The incident was the result of a hasty exit during a work trip on May 5.

Goonellabah man Sharif Daley pleaded guilty to wilful damage when he appeared in Southport Magistrates Court yesterday.

Prosecutors said Mr Daley had kicked the glass door on his way out of the venue, when it had taken too long to open.

Chipped from the impact the door was left off its hinges.

The glass door then shattered on staff when they attempted to repair it.

Staff sustained a number of cuts from the explosion and required medical treatment.

Mr Daley, who has no criminal record, was fined $300 and ordered to repay Star Casino $3000 for damages. No conviction was recorded.
