Malone earns national nod
GOLD Coast hockey player Rosie Malone has been elevated to the Hockeyroos squad.
Malone, 20, has become a permanent member of the 27player squad following the departure of Gabrielle Nance, who has taken an indefinite break from the game.
It comes after the Burleigh Hockey Club player fell short of securing a spot in the Australian team for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, held last month.
Malone debuted for the Hockeyroos in January, playing three matches during a Test series against Spain in Perth.
The forward has previously represented the Queensland Scorchers at several Australian Hockey League tournaments, scoring two goals in their 2016 title win.
The call-up comes as the Hockeyroos begin preparations for the Hockey World Cup in London in July and means Malone will have to relocate to Perth for most of the year.
