Record crowds at Broadbeach Blues
THE Blues on Broadbeach festival has exceeded organisers expectations with more than 170,000 patrons enjoying the free festivities.
Broadbeach Alliance CEO Jan McCormick said the alliance was “surprised” by the number of visitors in the first two days which continued over the weekend.
“We were hoping to keep the momentum going following the Commonwealth Games,” she said.
“The numbers are great and we are happy with the turnout. We are experiencing a big resurgence in trade and activity in the precinct and that is fantastic.”
Broadbeach hotels experienced a 90 per cent patronage over the festival.
Upper Coomera local Olga Sandau and partner Daniel Ronan said they have been regulars at the event in past few years.
“It’s such a great event and it’s free which makes it even better,” said Mr Ronan.
Ms Sandau, who is set to marry Mr Ronan, said they loved blues music and it was something that bonded them together.
“We have enjoyed coming to this event together, we both love the music,” she said.
“It is an amazing event, and we have had a really good time.
The Pecci family, mum Molly, dad Patrick and kids Phoenix, 3, and Ayla, 15 months, loved the atmosphere and family time.
“There are such a mix of people here, the older generations, people with young kids,” said Mr Pecci.
“It has an atmosphere, which makes it welcoming to everyone.”
“We have been having a great time,” said Mrs Pecci.
“The kids have been dancing and it’s been so fun.”
