COASTERS EYE MARKLE SPARKLE

-

IT was the $180,000 white satin gown that excited the bridal world and now Gold Coast brides-to-be are already changing their wedding dress orders.

Burleigh Waters bride-tobe Mandy St George said that after seeing the wedding dress worn by the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, when she married Prince Harry at the weekend, she completely changed her idea.

“When I saw the dress, I was immediately influenced by the conservative and traditional style,” Ms St George said.

Gold Coast bridal lounge wedding dress designer Kate Gubanyi said by yesterday morning she was already seeing a surge in interest.

“We have requests for plainer wedding dresses and gowns with a higher neckline (similar to Meghan’s reception gown),’’ Ms Gubanyi said. “Gold Coast brides always tend to show off a bit more curve and skin so we will see Meghan’s modest style given a Gold Coast spin.” So why did it cost so much? Ms Gubanyi said it was because of the designer and brand – Clare Waight Keller of the fashion house Givenchy.

“With a gown of this price tag, unless it is made with months of hand embroidery or is beaded in precious jewels, such as diamonds, the buyer is 100 per cent paying for the reputation that has been built up by the designer and the label.”
