TOWER A SELL-OUT Sundale project a massive success for ‘High Rise’ Harry Triguboff

BILLIONAIRE developer Harry Triguboff has achieved a sellout at Sundale in Southport — the final tower in his Brighton on Broadwater project.

The Australian apartment king and founder of Meriton, often referred to as ‘High-rise Harry’, embarked on the Brighton on Broadwater masterplanned community 14 years ago after paying $54.5 million for the 5.2ha former Sundale shopping centre site.

He said Brighton on Broadwater evolved into “a bit of an adventure”, and wondered whether he had bitten off more than he could

chew. “We persevered, modified our approach to suit the times, and at the end of the day we’ve created a better community with a recreation-like atmosphere,” he said.

Construction of the 55level Sundale tower was completed prior to Christmas, 2016. It has 341 residential apartments and 208 Meriton Suites serviced apartments.

Meriton said the average three-bedroom unit sale was $846,533, two-bedroom, $602,245, and one-bedroom $391,372.

That compares to the median unit sale price in Southport of $390,000, for the 12months to January.

The last apartment to sell in Sundale was a two-bedroom unit snapped up for $650,000.

Mr Triguboff said Meriton’s vision for Sundale was modified during development and by 2014 was simple: design a central place to live, rent, and enjoy short-term stays with the luxury comforts of resort-style living.

Sundale is the tallest building in the multi-tower Brighton on Broadwater project, which is home to around 3000 people and 1600 units.

Mr Triguboff has moved on to a new Gold Coast venture — a 73-level tower called Ocean on the Surfers Paradise beachfront.

He said Meriton had made a tentative start to construction for Ocean, which was approved by the council in March and will be the tallest of the 19 towers he has undertaken on the Gold Coast over a period spanning 40 years.

Ocean will also have far more titles than any other Gold Coast tower — a combination of more than 700 residential apartments and hotel suites, along with a major supermarket, restaurants and cafes.

Mr Triguboff said Ocean is set to address a lack of two and three-bedroom hotel suites on the market and become a central hub for Surfers Paradise.

“Ocean’s height will offer residences and guests unobstructed views of the Gold Coast skyline.

“We’re very bullish about Surfers and why not? — we have the best site on the beachfront.

“With the completion of the new apron and taxiway at Gold Coast Airport, we anticipate more visitors from abroad.”
