A NEW ride-share company launching on the Gold Coast today ((Tuesday May 22)) claims it will leave drivers and riders with more cash in their hip pocket with a lower commission rate and cheaper fares.

More than 30,000 drivers have signed up to Ola Cabs since it first launched in Perth in February, before expanding to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Ola Cabs is an Indian ridesharing giant founded in Mumbai and now based in Bangalore.

“The commission Ola takes is a lot better,” Mr Wolfindale said.

Ola will take an introductory commission rate of 7.5 per cent for each fare, followed by a 15 per cent flat rate.

This compares to rate of 25 per cent.

Ola also offers a 24-hour support line for drivers, and take home earnings deposited the next day. Uber’s

While Mr Wolfindale will continue to use Uber, he’s pleased he can now make an income between the two apps.

“It’s my sole income, it’s good, it’s viable,” Mr Wolfindale said.

“I started with a little Barina, now I’ve got a seven-seater, I get all the party people in there.” Uber was contacted for a response but declined to comment.
