Stewart in good touch at titles

- with Brett Wilkie

CHLOE Stewart has stamped her authority on the Queensland State Championships winning two out of the first three events on offer at the Sunshine Coast this past week.

Stewart lined up with former world champion and ex Gold Coaster Ian Schuback to win the Mixed Pairs over Helensvale’s Aron Sherriff who teamed up with his mother-inlaw Elizabeth Walton from Hervey Bay.

She then joined her Tweed Heads teammates Jessica Srisamruaybai and Claire Turley to take out the triples event to give her two titles from two attempts. The trio dominated the event from start to finish, not having the play the last end throughout each of their post sectional finals games.

The third event saw Stewart join her defending champion teammates of Julie Keagan (Broadbeach), Natasha Jones and Lynsey Clarke both from Helensvale in the fours. After winning their section they fell short in the quarter-final.

A current member of the Australian Jackaroos squad, Stewart will tour the UK with the Australian team in July.

The women’s fours was taken out by Val Dun (Dalby), Cheryl Hutchinson (Broadbeach), Heather Hodgson (Paradise Point) and Wendy Usher (North Dalby).

Hutchinson, Hodgson and Usher all used bowling arms.

The arm bowling association recently held their State Titles at Musgrave Hill and is a great way to keep people with ailments enjoying the game.

It was an all Gold Coast affair in the men’s fours final with Broadbeach’s Sean Ingham skipping his three Helensvale boys Darren Christie, Reed Burgess and Sam White to victory over Ian Law (Burleigh), Gary Pearson (South Tweed), Dale McWhinney-Shillington and Dean McWhinney, both of Beenleigh. Tugun’s Scott Chamberlain and Tweed Heads Clinton Bailey reached the final of the men’s triples along with Greg Brown.

Men’s and women’s open and over 60 pairs start today with finals on Thursday.

The singles events run Friday through to Sunday.

The singles finals will be live streamed on the Bowls Queensland website and Facebook all day Sunday.
