Kingscliff vow not to repeat forfeiture

- BRENT O’NEILL @Brent_ONeill

KINGSCLIFF Women’s League coach Matt Noble is confident there will be no repeat of Friday night’s forfeit against Southport 1 as the Wolves continue their topflight foray.

Newcomers to A grade this season, Kingscliff endured a nightmare start to the campaign with 12-1 and 18-0 losses to Musgrave and Broadbeach 1 respectively in their first two outings.

Having failed to field 11 players in their first game, things got worse in Round 4 on Friday when they were forced to forfeit their home clash with the Warriors at Walter Peate Reserve.

WHEN (THE PLAYERS) SIGN ON AT THE START OF THE SEASON THEY MAKE A COMMITMENT SO WE’RE HOPING THIS IS JUST A ONE OFF KINGSCLIFF COACH MATT NOBLE

However, coach Matt Noble insists they will be ready to rumble away to Robina 1 on Saturday night.

“We just had a lot of players away last weekend unfortunately and we wanted to call it early because Southport had to come all the way down to Kingscliff,” Noble said.

“It’s frustrating (but) we’re looking to rearrange the fixture with Southport. We hope (it won’t happen again).

“We’ve got 16 registered for the women and about four under-15s that have been playing with us as well who have been playing really well. We’ve all been training and playing well.

“We’re in the league to give it a go. When (the players) sign on at the start of the season they make a commitment so we’re hoping this is just a one off.”

The three points gained from the 3-0 forfeit helped Southport 1 climb into the competition’s top four.

Kick off against Robina 1 is at 7pm on Saturday.
