FREEZY DOES IT FOR CHILLED OUT GOLD COASTERS
GOLD Coasters have been shivering their way through cold nights and can expect that to continue, although weekend temperatures will be warmer.
Seaway temperatures have dropped to 6C below average at night, sitting at a chilly 9.7C at Southport on Monday and around 9C on Tuesday – the coldest this week, followed by sunny days averaging a beautiful 23 degrees, according to a Weatherzone spokesman.
“The average overnight temps for Southport in May are around 15C, but Monday night it dropped to 6 below average. Things have cooled down considerably,” he said.
“The Coast will experience cool southerly winds and the minimums will get lower over the next week, warming slightly for the weekend.”
Helensvale couple Layna Spears and Spencer Bluck, both 21, were enjoying the nice weather by going for a skate at Burleigh and taking photos of the spectacular view.
“It was a really nice day today but you can definitely feel the weather getting colder,” said Ms Spears.
“It was freezing last night, it almost felt like it was going to snow it was that cold.”
The spokesman said the Gold Coast was experiencing much cooler than average temperatures than were typical for May.
“You would expect that (cooler temperatures) coming into winter, however we’ve had mostly below average nights this month, which is significant,” he said.
“We’ve only had one day above average this month and had a big dip in minimum temperatures.”
Inland was much cooler than expected, with temperatures dropping as low as 2.3C at Beaudesert this week.
The spokesman said temperatures would increase slightly at the weekend, rising to three above average and reaching a maximum of 25C on the Gold Coast.
