MORE POWER TO HIM – DAVISON’S INDY 500 JOY

GOLD Coast Supercars driver Will Davison has savoured the chance to see his good mate Will Power become the first Australian to win the iconic Indy 500 race.

Davison has been a regular visitor to Indianapolis for the annual event – now 102 years old – to cheer on his cousin James Davison as well as Power.

While it wasn’t James’ day, he knew how much this triumph meant for Power, who made a cameo Supercars appearance in the sister car to Davison at Ford Performance Racing in 2012.

“I was here when he finished P2 in 2015 and in the motorhome afterwards I could see how much that hurt,” Davison said from Indianapolis.

“I speak to him regularly; I can’t share all of the details of our chats but how much this race has meant to him and how much it’s annoyed him that he hasn’t been able to win this one.

“Will’s a pretty intense guy, a pretty focused and dedicated guy, but you can see the release in him now after the race.

“It’s always special to be here at Indy but I’ve been with him on four Sunday nights after the race where he’s disappointed and we have had a deep-andmeaningful for hours.

“Now, this time, we’re going to have a good chat tonight and I’m sure share a beer.”

Davison said the Penske ace had been more relaxed than ever in the lead-up to the race and things panned out perfectly.

He added James was “gutted” to not make the finish after a crash.
