GIVING UP MEN IN NAME OF FASHION

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

LADIES, if you’ve ever looked at your male friends and wondered why they weren’t already parading the catwalk, then Gold Coast Fashion Week has just the job for you.

The event has put out the call to women across the Gold Coast to dob in the men in their lives, to combat a chronic shortage of male models.

And for the guys, no need to worry about slugging it out in some model bootcamp, according to co-ordinator Olivia Edwards.

“It really is just come and walk, do your thing and embrace it,” she said.

Dozens of Gold Coast girls are already turning in their friends and family to strut their stuff, sending in photos and videos to see who makes the cut.

Though he doesn’t quite meet the 185cm requirement, 21-year-old Christian Nimri from Robina said his friend Maddy dobbed him in for the job anyway.

“She gave me a heads up before she put my name in, I was a bit shocked, because I haven’t really done public modelling before,” he said, but added he hadn’t started practising his poses just yet.

“I’m a photographer myself so I take a lot of self portraits, but this time it’s not me taking the photo so it’s a bit different.”

If you’re wondering whether your man is fit for the runway, Olivia Edwards has just one thing to say.

“Just throw them out there, honestly, it’s gonna be easier than they expect,” she said.

“Give them a little push, tell them they’re amazing and then they’ll have a great time.”

Submissions close at 5pm today, for more info contact model@gcfw18.com.au.
