Antoniolli spends night behind bars
SUSPENDED Ipswich Mayor Andrew Antoniolli was last night behind bars after allegedly breaching his bail conditions.
The state’s corruption watchdog arrested the 47-yearold yesterday, charging him at the Ipswich City watchhouse with one count of breaching conditions of bail.
He is expected to face Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
It comes less than a month after Antoniolli was charged with seven counts of fraud after allegedly using Ipswich City Council funds for his own use to buy auction items from charitable organisations between October 26, 2011 and May 20, 2017.
In a statement, the Crime and Corruption Commission said it would be alleged Antoniolli breached one of his bail conditions.
“As this matter is now before the court, and the investigation remains ongoing, the CCC is unable to comment further,” the statement said.
It is understood the breach relates to Antoniolli allegedly contacting someone in a manner forbidden by his bail conditions.
Antoniolli has previously said he intends to fight the charges.
