TOM JUMPS ASTRIDE SHOW’S PUSH FOR 90,000
THE Mudgeeraba Show is already the biggest agricultural show in the state but is set to position itself as the number one show on the Coast, with organisers predicting 90,000 patrons will walk through the gates, more than doubling last year’s ticket sales of 40,000.
Last year, 40,000 tickets were sold for the two-day event, meaning patrons could have visited over the two days, totalling a possible 80,000 in attendance, but this year they are looking to smash that record with a predicted 90,000 over two days.
The two-day event will be “bigger than the Commonwealth Games” according to show organisers who have opened up online ticket sales for the first time in the show’s 90 year history.
Country singer Adam Brand has been touted as a massive drawcard in a proposed increase in attendance as he performs a free concert on the Saturday night of the event – as well as the added events and exhibitions.
The show has come a long way since it started as a small and humble flower show in 1928. From introducing new exhibits, activities, side shows, fireworks displays and of course, animals, the Mudgeeraba Show has grown to become the biggest agricultural show in Queensland.
Show Society media manager Madison Hebbard said the event would be “bigger than the Commonwealth Games”.
“It’s gonna be a cracker, biggest show ever,” she said.
“We are aiming for 90,000 (attendees) and why not? It’s all about country sparkle, we’re about making memories and every year it just keeps getting better.”
Show Society president Jenny Shultz said the event had undergone many changes to become one of the “greatest shows in Queensland”.
Mayor Tom Tate celebrated with around 70 locals at a morning tea at the showgrounds yesterday in honour of the 90th anniversary.
The experienced horseman rode a bullock for the occasion.
