STAGE SENSATION ABOUT TO EXPLODE ON THE COAST

- AMBER MACPHERSON

THEATRICAL sensation Stomp has landed with a bang on the Gold Coast.

The New York-born, worldwide phenomenon is touring Australian venues and will explode on The Star Casino stage tonight.

The high-energy percussion performance thumps, strikes and taps everyday objects to create thunderous sounds in expertly choreographed routines.

Pacific Fair shoppers were treated to a free preview on yesterday to drum up attention to the six shows across four days.

Performer Andy Patrick said the reason the show resonated with so many people in different countries was because it communicated and connected without words.

“There’s no language barrier when people come to watch the show,” Mr Patrick said. “In the show, you imagine eight people working at a factory, they don’t really know each other too well, but they know each other quite well by the end, and that’s just by communication with rhythm.

“There’s no talking, it’s all percussion and movement.

“Everyone has rhythm, whether you believe it or not, you do.”

Mr Patrick said the audience would be enthralled by feats of strength, crowd participation and comedic gags.

“You’re going to see things you use around your house and hear some noises you never thought they could make,” Mr Patrick said.

“It’s funny, there’s a lot of comedy in it as well, keeps it moving.

“There’s definitely a flow, they are big routines and more subtle routines.

“There’s a couple of different sections of audience participation. People walk out with a better sense of rhythm.”
