Valet driver’s parking fail as $200,000 car crushed
HE had one job but it didn’t go to plan.
A valet driver at a Sydney hotel had to be freed from the wreckage of a luxury $200,000 convertible after an embarrassing parking fail yesterday.
The driver was attempting to put a guest’s Porsche in reverse but instead accelerated full throttle into an orange Subaru, wedging the car underneath it at the Hyatt Regency on Sussex St in the city.
He sat in shock, trapped in the car until emergency services arrived to remove him about 8.30am. Police rescue stabilised the car (pictured) so the embarrassed employee could get out of the vehicle. He escaped injury.
“I have seen the valet guy in the car, he didn’t know what to do,” local cafe worker Karla said. “He was in the front, he was totally shocked. He couldn’t get out.”
Police breath-tested him at the scene and he returned a negative result. He was given the rest of the day off and will not lose his job.
The owner of the black Porsche Carrera, which retails for in excess of $200,000, was also consoled by hotel staff.
Hyatt communications manager Camilla Cooper said the hotel was looking into the incident.
“A full investigation is being conducted by hotel management over the next few days.”
