KADEN Hensel’s presence is paying dividends for The Southport School’s tennis program.

The former professional player turned coach has overseen a stunning lift in the prestigious school’s on-court fortunes: TSS are remarkably on top of the Queensland GPS competition ladder for the first time since 2001.

“In just his fourth year at the helm, head coach Kaden Hensel has turned around the program from perennial wooden spooners to championship contenders,” said director of tennis David Hodge.

“Last year the team narrowly lost in the final match (and now) all players have career-high Australian rankings.”

TSS have two more rounds at their on-campus tennis centre, including tomorrow against Ipswich Grammar School from 8.30am to 12pm.

Two weeks later they will host St Joseph’s Nudgee College. Under Hensel’s watch is a team of Jack McCarthy, Ryan Selvey, Ethan Shoesmith, captain William Timoney and reserve Matias McDonald.
