Protest at horse cull
PLANS to rehome or euthanise about 2500 brumbies in Victoria’s alpine region have drawn the ire of mountain cattlemen. The Mountain Cattlemen’s Association of Victoria has urged the State Government to protect the brumbies on the Bogong High Plains, saying they are of cultural significance.
“The small mob of brumbies that run on the Plains – estimated less than 100 – cause minimal impact to that vast area, but are a significant part of the heritage that makes the Plains so special to visitors,” president Graeme Stoney said in a statement yesterday.
