BENOWA State High School student Natarlia Collins has received the prestigiou­s Gold Coast Aunty Joyce Indigenous Scholarshi­p to pursue her dreams at TAFE Ashmore.

The 15-year-old student plans to actively promote the benefits of education to young people in her community.

Natarlia’s, whose family originate from Moree in New South Wales, are from the Kamilaroi people. She was born in Tamworth and hopes to become a beautician.

“I would love to follow my dreams of becoming a profession­al in the beauty industry, and combine this with my love for travelling,” Natarlia said.

Enrolled in the Certificat­e II in Retail Cosmetics, a TAFE at Schools program aimed at students in Years 10 to 12, Natarlia said she was dedicated to furthering her studies provided by TAFE Queensland.

“I want to make a difference in the lives of my people and to help them overcome disadvanta­ges,” Natarlia said.

A netball fan who enjoys playing in the annual Budgies Netball competitio­n on the Gold Coast, she is also actively involved in Deadly Choices.
