GAMES JUST THE START

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

THE Commonwealth Games might be over, but for 18year-old Renae Wilmot, it’s just the beginning.

The Southport woman secured her first job working in the Baton Relay contact centre and also helped organise events at Dreamworld Festival 2018.

“As an 18-year-old it was a huge step, since not long before beginning my work there, I had only just completed my schooling.

“The experience taught me a lot about myself and what I am capable of achieving. It also taught me how to work in such a large organisation with different people.”

Having achieved a Cert III in Business, the proud Aboriginal teen said she was now looking for her next challenge and helping other job seekers to understand their options: “It’s not just looking online to find a job, there are people to help and guide you through the process,” she said.

Ms Wilmot was just one of more than 2000 placed in jobs as part of NORTEC’s 1000 jobs in 100 days program.

NORTEC now hopes to top their 2017 numbers by creating a stronger focus on working with indigenous business across the Coast.
