Fifita adds to name but can’t stop Blues

- EMMA GREENWOOD

FORMER Keebra Park player David Fifita has enhanced his already stellar reputation with an outstanding game in the under-18 Origin clash.

Fifita scored a try midway through the second term to level the scores after the baby Blues barged over twice just after the break to take the lead.

But it would have been of little comfort to the Broncoscontracted forward after NSW front-rower Stafano Utoikamanu muscled his way out of the tackle of three players to slam down the winning try.

The Blues converted to win 16-10 after Queensland had been up 6-0 at the break thanks to a try from Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, converted by five-eighth and former Keebra student Tanah Boyd.

Fifita, also the Queensland captain, is one of the rising stars of the sport and he only enhanced his reputation last night with his strong running and hard tackling.

Several Gold Coast products or former students played a part in the Queensland team as they bid to make their mark on their journey to the NRL.

Fifita and Boyd’s fellow former Keebra student Geordie Brand was in Maroon, along with current students Seb Winters-Chang and David Butler.

Palm Beach Currumbin’s Tom Dearden was one of four Tweed Heads Seagulls players, including Butler, Blake Campbell and Xavier Coates.
