Last ditch attempt to halt lottery law

-

A CONTROVERSIAL foreign bookmaker has petitioned the Turnbull Government in a last-ditch attempt to persuade it to abandon legislation which would ban betting on overseas lotteries.

Lottoland Australia chief executive Luke Brill said the response to its petition had been “staggering” and its more than 15,000 signatures would send a message that the community did not support a ban.

Communications Minister Mitch Fifield announced in April the government would ban the practice nationwide following a campaign from local newsagents and statesanctioned lottery companies including Tatts Group.

The legislation is expected to be passed during the next parliamentary

Mr Brill said his company had been “smeared” by Tatts to con MPs into handing them an indefinite monopoly.

“On behalf of our 700,000 customers, and the 15,800 people who signed this petition, we are urging the government to abandon this legislation before it is too late,” he said. sitting fortnight.
