Why should the general taxpayer fund another M1 when so many choose to live so far away from work? - Marco Polo

Most people I talk to agree with the sentiment shared by Andrew Phillipos (letters, June 6). There should be no extension of light rail to Burleigh and Palm Beach as business will be broken. But rather an extension of heavy rail to airport and to Cooly.

Great initiative with a Hollywood style sign for the Gold Coast. Not Tate’s idea, so he ain’t for it. Just a thought

Heaps of people are taking their empty aluminium cans and glass bottles to the recycle depot at Chinderah and collecting a deposit they didn’t pay in the first place. Way to go NSW! John, Palm Beach

I heartily agree with letter writer Robert Buick that bicycle riders need a registration plate. Having one the same as their car rego is a brilliant idea. As some riders have more than one bike, it could be attached to the seat with padlocks to prevent stealing and moved to the other bike as needed. John Mc

Attention Again all Cafe Owners. Please explain to your baristas the difference between a coffee cup and a tea cup. We tea drinkers prefer tea to be served in the appropriate vessel. I’m sure If coffee drinkers received their coffee in a tea cup they would be unhappy. Get educated. The Black Dot

An express bus system stopping at limited stops using articulated (bendy buses) in bus only lanes from Broadbeach to Coolangatta via Airport would be a far more efficient and less expensive alternative to a light rail extension. TransLink could then use the double deckers to transfer people to theme parks where they could be far better utilised. James.

What a joke! Go by train … we are both in our 80s, had to go to Brisbane to see a specialist. Could not find a car park at Robina, had to end parking near the stadium and walk to station. Lift was blocked off only open play days - a long walk at our age.

A little shocked at Beattie suggesting it was nonsense businesses closed due to the Games. I guess that shows his lack of understanding of business. I witnessed the problems as I walked past all the restaurants in Broadbeach every day. After all the media hype about traffic, so many locals left. Businesses were expecting increased volume of sales and put extra staff on, bought in more stock (which many in

food outlets had to throw out), not to mention the extra financial outlay, many increased their hours or stayed open all night … The result … very few customers … larger operating costs … very few sales = loss. I was not affected but am a business person and related to their pain as they lived in hope that it would improve every

day. Many relied on Easter and school holidays which would have normally been a good time, but the talk of excessive traffic kept locals away. Kim T

Why doesn’t the Qld Govt do a 6 month trial of reduced train fares. Halve them and people may choose to use the trains. There is bound to be a desk jockey on staff who could crunch the numbers. The train travels regardless of the number of passengers. Try to fill them up. Diz.

Kids’ playgrounds and parks where toilets are need to be patrolled more to rid some of these areas across GC of inapropiate behaviour of the park, ppl drinking, fighting, sleeping in some parks. They leave rubbish, broken bottles, needles about. Families with kids need a safe place to go.

GT … you say you have never been polled. The same thing could be said about thousands of others. l guess you haven’t won Lotto yet either. Just like thousands of others … so what is your point? Harry

To parents and carers: Children under 12 cannot ride in the front seat of a car unless all seats are occupied by children in the back of your car, sick and tired of fixing them after you have an accident. Michel, Ambo.

PH, Ormeau. l agree with you, I also read Rita Punahi’s article and found it quite inspirational. It is high time we stood up to those who wish to shut down comments which supposedly offend them. Rita’s article should be front page news everywhere Harry.

A simple solution to ease congestion on the M1 is to relocate half dozen large govt depts to the Gold Coast. Smart Move

It’s raining, I’m stoked.

Well done our new Qld team. Please do not boo them they did us proud and they will build as a team. Well done, go the MAROONS!
