Cody’s a pack of trouble

Forget Souths forwards, ex-Titan the real threat

ALL the talk is about Souths’ monster forward pack but it’s a Gold Coast product who most worries captain Ryan James.

Former Titans under-20 half Cody Walker is playing some of the best football of his career at Souths as the Rabbitohs firm as competition favourites.

While attention centres on the Rabbitohs monster pack and Origin stars Greg Inglis and Dane Gagai, halves Walk- er and Adam Reynolds are in outstanding form and James knows what his former Palm Beach Currumbin teammate is capable of.

“He’s just an instinctive player,” James said of one of the best creative players in the league.

“He seems to pop up around the ball and if there’s a halfbreak he’s always there.

“He’s just one of those players that knows football and the ball seems to fall into his hands, so we have to make sure we handle him tomorrow night.”

Titans coach Garth Brennan is also wary of the Rabbitohs halves despite their power up front.

“They’re a class act,” Brennan said.

“I think Adam Reynolds is playing some of the best football I’ve seen him play since he played Origin a few years ago.

“Walker is explosive when he plays off the back of that big pack that gets them going forward.

“So they’re really strong. And then you’ve got the likes of two Origin players in Gagai and Inglis in the backline – they’re strong right across the park.

“We’re under no illusions about that but I’m confident that if we get a good fan base and good supporters and the boys go out there and put in a performance like they’re capable of 80 minutes, I’m more than confident we can get the job done regardless of who’s playing in their team or who’s out.”

While there will be no room for pleasantries on the field tonight, James said he was proud of what Walker had achieved at Souths.
