LIVING LIFE THROUGH ROSE-TINTED GLASSES
LESS than two years ago model Mollie Rose was approached by producers who wanted to teach the Mermaid Beach glamour girl to DJ.
After enjoying a modelling stint in London, she said she was looking for a new challenge and decided to give it a go.
The gamble paid off with Ms Rose in demand across the country and headlining her own shows this spring.
She played Movieworld’s latest after-dark offering, Afterglow, this month.
“I learnt (to DJ) really quickly and was basically chucked in a club,” she said.
“My dad is a muso so it’s in my blood. I am a singer too.”
Ms Rose has put modelling on hold to DJ full-time, opening for international acts such as Bow Wow, Brody Jenner, and Sean Kingston.
“I have always loved being on stage. It’s where I feel at home,” she said. “Hyping up the crowd at the beginning of the night or finishing off a show with a banger, I find myself enjoying all gigs.”
Afterglow features live acts, roving entertainment, streetfood and rides.
Movie World executive general manager Greg Yong said Afterglow was transforming the park “into a dance-floor”. “In addition to the DJs, we have a host of street performers including fire twirlers, dancers and musicians,” he said.
Afterglow is running at Movie World for several nights in June. The next is on tomorrow, from 5-8pm. Two more will be held on June 29 and 30. Attendance is included in the general admission ticket to the park.
