ZOO’S LITTLE STAR SHOWS HER STRIPES

-

SHE is only two weeks old, but the newest addition to the Darling Downs Zoo is already proving she is full of character and can draw a crowd.

The yet-to-be-named zebra foal was born at the zoo south of Toowoomba last month and is quite the extrovert, owner Steve Robinson says.

“She’s very mischievous,” he said.

“Twenty-four hours after she was born, she was trying to skip around the paddock.”

Four-year-old, first-time mother Angel had a “problem free” birth, Mr Robinson said.

“She was a bit grumpy (on the) Tuesday and then we woke up to a little filly in the paddock the next morning.”

Australia’s zebra population has grown so close that finding an unrelated pair is challenging.

“So four years ago we imported 10 zebras from Texas where there are a lot on private ranches,” Mr Robinson said.
