They won through with 5-1 win over the Republic of Ireland, following a 0-0 draw in Dublin. They warmed up for the cup with a 0-0 draw against Sweden and a 2-0 win over Mexico. Previous history: The Socceroos suffered a 3-1 defeat in London in February 2007 followed three years later in a friendly in South Africa just ahead of the 2010 World Cup finals.
