Goal pressure builds for Palm Beach

- – BRENT O’NEILL

PALM Beach coach Matthew Fedden knows the solution to his side’s Gold Coast Women’s League problems is a simple one.

The Sharks have tasted victory just once in their first six matches, but Fedden is confident a focus on the most basic element of the game can turn things around away to Kingscliff tonight. “I reckon our main weakness is in front of goal,” Fedden, a 20-year veteran at the club, said.

“We’ve been able to create chances against most teams but it’s just been putting them away that’s what we’re struggling on. So we’ve done a lot of work with the final ball and putting the ball in the back of the net. “This side is brand new so a lot of new faces and new talent. We’ve probably got half a dozen juniors that have come through from the club and the other half are ex-Palm Beach players or friends of Palm Beach players.

“Some of them have had 10 years off footy and are coming back now to get fit again and have a crack. It hasn’t been the easiest start but with the girls being so new to each other, it’s only taken a couple of months but they have finally hit their straps and are playing some good footy.”

Kick off against last-placed Kingscliff is at Walter Peate Reserve at 8.15pm.
